What the Contracts Team at RIS does

• We provide expert advice on and negotiation of non-standard research grants, including clinical trials, and EU FP7 Consortium Agreements. We also deal with all non-standard research related contracts (such as confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, CASE studentship agreements with the industrial partners, Memorandums of Understanding, collaboration agreements, strategic partnership agreements, academic licences, and subcontracts).
• We deal with approval and acceptance, on behalf of the University, of all non-standard research applications and grants and all research related contracts. (NB standard research grants are handled by Faculty Research Offices).
• We advise on the Public Benefit Test (PBT), and provide the data for all Freedom of Information research requests which are required.
• We deal with approval and acceptance, on behalf of the University, of standard research applications and grants with a full economic cost of £1million or more.
• We review funder terms and conditions to ensure they are consistent with University policies and are fair and reasonable in relation to the associated cost recovery.
• We provide a periodic review of standard research terms and conditions, communicating changes to Faculty Research staff where necessary.
• We help safeguard the University’s financial and intellectual sustainability, ie its ability to publish results, protect its intellectual property and share in the benefits arising out of commercially valuable results.
• We ensure Researchers and Faculty Research staff are aware of, and understand, the obligations placed on them by the contractual terms of a grant.
• We provide assistance to resolve contractual disputes.
